Our story / Freakonomics Performance
A pitcher’s perspective. A strength coach’s experience. A shared belief that development needs a clear plan and consistent work.
The foundation
Freakonomics Performance was founded by Brynden Rodriguez, a pitcher whose background spans college and professional baseball.
Brynden played at Lenoir-Rhyne and with the Ogden Raptors. His bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and current strength and conditioning internship with Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball connect his playing experience with the daily work of athlete preparation.
That combination shapes Freakonomics: throwing development, strength, movement, recovery habits, and workload belong in the same conversation. The goal is a training process an athlete understands and can follow.
A broader coaching team
Payton Hughes brings strength and conditioning experience across sports to the Freakonomics team.
His athletic background includes Sioux Falls Lincoln, Northern State, and Ferris State, where he was part of two national championship teams. Today, he works as a Division II strength and conditioning coach in North Carolina.
Payton is ISSA certified and coaches athletes ages 12 and up, with experience across football, lacrosse, golf, soccer, and triathlon. His general programming, customized training, and video review options give athletes different levels of support.
What developed, not born means to us
Your goals, experience, environment, and season inform the conversation.
Strength, movement, sport practice, and recovery should support one another.
A clear plan only matters when you can understand it, use it, and return to the work.
